Report Day 1

Doon CC 2014

Day 1

Excellent hares and shocks were the key words used by many today after the opening day of Doon CC 2014. Going through the Oaks trial stake, the bitch on alot of peoples lips was Fenora Ocean. She was hammered in by the punters and returned 5/2 before her course from an opening 4/1. Dinny Gould was the one with the last laugh as she went off line when seemingly well in front in the opening round. The top bitch on the card Boshski blew the cobwebs away in the opening round and really strutted her stuff in the secind where the clockmen were amazed at their devices. She is now 2/5 favourite for outright success and will be hoping to give Michael O Donovan another TS success this year. Skellig starwars ran two good rounds and will sure to give Boshski a course in the orning however the favouring red collar and superior clock indicates only result. The next quarter looks favourably for Toem Polly. A semi finalist in Nenagh already this season she should have too many guns for the locally owned Blue Magician who was foutunate that her opponent in both rounds went offline.
The bottom half is open enough with litter sisters Bonarea Jenny and Missouri Duchess destined to meet in the semi final .Jenny reached the final in Cashel in the local stake and ran the TS winner to 1 length in the opening round in Charleville. Missouri Duchess has 2 semi finals to her name and will be hot favourite to progress to the final. She was 6/4 after the opening round but is now available at 4/1. She seemed to go offline for a period of her 2nd course but still pulled through comfortably when spotting her quarry again. Overall it seems Boshski is the one to beat. She is running nice and straight and has the favouring red collar for the duration of her courses. She gets my vote to win out from Missouri Duchess.

The reserve Derby trial stake saw all the favourites win their opening round. Downtown geezer won his first round well and sets up a course with Ballymac Abraham in the morning. This will be a tight buckle with Ballymac my pick to progress to the semi final. Call up Soon looked good in his opening round and won by 2 lengths. He meets crafty totoro in the 2nd round and clockmen have him in front. I think he will go through and beat Ballymac in the semi final.
The bottom half looks Magical Harveys for the taking. A distance winner in the opening round, he has 6 spots on anything in the field. He should far too muh early for Killeagh Jack in the 2nd round. Freemount Sire was the dog i thought would give magical most to do in this stake. He won his opening round by 3 lengths. I think he will win in the morning but might find Magicals early pace too hot to handle in the semi final but not after a titanic battle. Magical gets a confident vote to win out here and continue the hot form of the Guilfoyle family.

The opening round of the all age cup saw Cooga Darlan win after going offline in the early stages. He got a couple of bad tumbles after the turn which may come against him tomorow. Coolree Romeo beat the track bred Shaws Jet comfortably but may find Cooga darlan a touch too hot in the morning. Ocean sirocco shpwed his early round speed when defeating Cree Shellac but the run of the round came from Silent Rocky. He showed terrific early pace to beat Connells Cu a coupe of lengths and he is my choice to preogress to the final . Make Peace is another dog who unbeatable in the early rounds. He beat recent Nenagh cup winner In The Centre but took a heavy collision against the escape. Killeagh Jingles ran well in his course but if Make Peace returns to action tomorrow i feel he will progress to the semi final. Aristo Dawn looks the likely winner of the Nom Ryan memorial stake and set up a clash with Make Peace. IMO Silent Rocky will have age on his side come the final and gets my vote to lift the Corn Dun Bleisce.
