Rathkeale All Age

The Limerick Cup is the headline for coursing supporters from Kerry and Limerick this weekend. A super meeting, it excels from year to year with top class hares and set up. The field is flat but a very good test for dogs and with the rain arriving it will be a hard won come Sunday evening. The cup has attracted a nice selection of all age dogs looking for a valuable 4 points. The opening quarter will be all about Kilkeale Hero. A super-fast dog that has only been beaten once in his career (semi-final of Derby 2013). He won 2 cups last year but got injured for the champion stakes and Irish Cup. His wellbeing has to be taken on trust as he was withdrawn from Edenderry a few weeks ago. If fit and ready to go, he should sail into the last 4. The 2 quarter looks to be between Dynamic Atom and High Garden. Dynamic Atom was beat last week in Ballyduff but has shown pace in his courses this year. High Garden has the stronger credentials after running up to Lochbo Benny in Glin. I fancy him to survive his 2 courses here and meet Kilkeale in the semi-final.
The opening course of the 2 nd half will be a good buckle. High rise has shown glimpses of form so far but Echo Johnny should progress. He was awarded a tight call in the final of the cup in Loughrea and will fancy his chances here. The field will also play to his strengths and I fancy him to progress to the last 8. The next course sees Gifted Rebel against Cooga Mafi. Gifted rebel was very quick last year but has failed to develop into a serious all age dog. He meets recent Charleville runner up in the first round. Cooga Mafi got a lot of work in his ¼ and ½ final there but should hold enough guns to see off Gifted Rebel. Echo Johnny may have his measure in the second round however. The final quarter will see Kyle Roger as hot favourite. He ran superbly last time where his ICC clocks were up there with the best. Not only is he my idea to progress from this quarter but I think he will be the one to beat Sunday evening and gets a confident vote to collect the prize Sunday evening for the inform Field kennels.
