Six to Five All Age Cup
Nenagh C.C. will be glad of the recent rain that has fallen throughout the country and conditions should be just right for their forthcoming fixture at the weekend. The cup has attracted some very interesting runners with Crushers Oak and District Twelve looking the standout entries. District has got the better of the draw with an easier half with Bower King and Quasimodo Raz seemingly the best of the challengers. Crushers Oak won the TS here last year will have the red collar from the 2 nd course and this may be a slight advantage for him. He was top of the market for the Derby since winning his TS and lost just up to the eventual Derby winner Feel my Pulse in the 1 st round. He went to the Irish cup with great expectations and was beat by kennel mate Blades of Hope in the ¼ final after doing some sensational clocks. He will be fancied to overcome Kind Rain who has ran poor since reaching the semifinal of the TS in Kilflynn early last season. The second course will see Sky Star hot favourite to win. He is trained by Patrick Guilfoyle who must be still on cloud nine after his Skywalker Rory won the Irish St. Leger last Saturday night in Limerick. Sky star ran in Thurles where he went unsighted in the second round after being 6 lengths in front. He is a dog I would not like to meet early and the clash with Crushers Oak will be anticipated Sunday morning.
The 3 rd course will be a great buckle with Carrowkeal Gavin v Kyle George. Gavin was a very fast pup who was due to appear in Mallow a couple of weeks ago. He was withdrawn with probable cause being the ground but should have favoured conditions here. He won a good quality TS in Bandon last year and gave connections a great run in Clonmel when narrowly denied by Feel my Pulse. Kyle George is a very interesting runner who has yet to run. He is bred in the purple and with the kennels absolutely flying, he could be anything. He was entered into the Fantasy List and would not have been kept if void of pace. Rumour has it he trialled in Regional and was narrowly beat by Kyle Fionn. On that form alone he will have a great chance. His lack of experience may come against him however.
Less said has only ran once with an opening round defeat in Charleville. Wicked monk is a brother of Feel my Pulse and has improved in each outing this year. He was beat in the semi final in Ennis/Clarecastle and again in the 32 cup in Ballyheigue. He should be too good and set up a clash with Gavin or George.
District Twelve is the first name drawn in the second half. A dog with exceptional pace I think a flat field suits him ideally. He had one outing already this year when romping to victory in Westmeath. He beat Judiligence a half length in the opening round there but the form really stood up when he won next time out. He meets recent duffer winner from Ballyheigue; Deirin Master. District should advance with ease. Quasimodo raz was well liked a s a puppy last year and was just beat in the final of the TS in Limerick City. He ran very well in the Derby when finding Defacto too strong in the 3 rd round after clocking up well. He was beat in the semi final of the cup in Loughrea and is getting better with each outing. He will have a close buckle with bunch of fools who won a reserve TS in Kilimer last year and was beat in the second round in Ennis this season. The standout dog in the bottom of the card is Bower King. He has ran twice this season with a win in iscannor and runner up in Abbeydorney. A runner up or win here may be enough for him to qualify for the champion stakes. He should advance to the final 4 here with a win against Ballinveala Jody in the 2 nd round the likeliest outcome. Jody is lightly coursed but did show potential last season where he won 2 rounds in Ardpatrick.
Overall it looks to between 4 or 5 dogs. Bower King and District Twelve in the bottom half should meet in the semi final. In the top half they will have to run to beat Crushers Oak. Carrowkeal Gavin, Sky Star and Kyle George look the nearest challengers. Crushers gets my vote to win on this field for the second year in a row.
