Listowel – John Prendiville Cup
Danger to All

Listowel have made giant strides this year in regard to their grounds. A stand has been erected and massive work has been done to the field and other areas of the meeting. The cup has again failed to disappoint with the cream of all age dogs taking their chance. The opening course sees one of the top pups from last year takes his place. Sturdyandstaunch was a talking dog after his TS win in Ballyheigue and showed his true form at the Irish cup meeting after. He ran in Castleisland 2 weeks ago and was beat by the winner Tilford Tom in the semi-final. Sources claim that the hare favoured Tilford in that course and a straight run might have seen a different result. The top quarter also holds Needham Danger. In my opinion he was the fastest pup last year. He won his TS in Carlow and was soon purchased by the mighty Matthew kennel for a tilt at the Derby. On his way there he picked up a lot of his fee when claiming the Corn Na Feile in decisive fashion. He was unlucky in the Derby but showed his real class in the Irish cup when winning the Plate. His clocks during the event highlight his speed as he clocked faster nearly all of the remaining Irish cup dogs for the remainder of the meeting. He will have a big say here.
The 2 nd quarter sees a number of challengers. Must name him is exceptionally fast in the early rounds and has 4 champion stakes point to his name already. Journey of life was well liked last year but may need the run here. Kyle roger was backed into favouritism in Castleisland and like Sturdyandstaunch might have got further had the hare stayed straight in his buckle with Floating Patriot. He is my pick to progress to the semi-final here.
The bottom half of the cup doesn’t seem to be as competitive. The standout dog is Tilford Tom. A dog that has grown from strength to strength over the past 2 years. He won the Island cup only 2 weeks ago but connections must feel he is bouncing again to have him ready for this assault. All things even, I think he will surely come out of the bottom half. Dogs to give him a run include; Galbally Sam and wheresthefella. All 3 are positioned in the 3 rd quarter but I think Tilford will have too many guns for them
Overall it is a fascinating cup with the top half being ultra-competitive. Sturdyandstaunch, Needham danger, Kyle roger and Tilford tom IMO will be the dogs to fight it out come Sunday evening with Needham the pick to succeed.
